Q Departments of correction refer to prison gangs as security threat groups. Why do you think they don't just refer to them as gangs, and does it make a difference?
Security Threat Groups is a group of organization of prison convicts. Informally, they are also called prison gangs. This is because both the groups pose significant threat in whichever area they operate. When the gangs roamed free outside the prison they created innumerable nuisances and similarly the security threat groups are itself a menace to the protection of prison officials.
